Budding Entrepreneurs complete their Bright Sparks Challenge

Children and budding entrepreneurs have been taking part in the Bright Sparks £20 Challenge to raise funds for Alice House Hospice.

The Bright Sparks campaign which was sponsored and supported by EDF energy saw seven local schools and colleges aiming to raise as much as possible from an initial stake of £20, with all money going towards Hospice care.

The overall winner was Sacred Heart RC Primary School who raised a fantastic £667.  They were presented with the EDF Bright Sparks Trophy, a cheque for £100 and a Gold Award.

All teams were invited to the awards ceremony which was held at the EDF Energy Visitor Centre.

Sacred Heart invested their £20 stake into buying tubes of Pringles and then filling the empties with change. Other fundraising activities included a Wear it Purple Day, organised by Business students at the Hartlepool College of Further Education, a Christmas hamper raffle and cake sale by Greatham Primary School and a non-uniform day at West View Primary.

Teams were awarded a framed gold certificate for raising over £250 each which every team managed to achieve.

Craig Dohring, station director at Hartlepool’S EDF Power Station, said “We were delighted to be asked to support this innovative fundraising scheme.  The station has been partner with Alice House for many years now and it’s a charity that is very close to all the team here.  The challenge to youngsters to work with a small amount of money and then see how they can grow it was a fantastic idea and one that could even create the next Alan Sugar right here in Hartlepool.”

Janice Forbes, Community Fundraiser at the Hospice said “It’s been a great project to be involved in and the children have come up some really good fundraising activities. I would like to thank EDF for all their support and sponsorship of the event and I look forward to working with them on the next Bright Sparks Challenge which starts in October 2018.”

Anyone who is interested in taking part in the next challenge which is open to schools, colleges, youth groups and individuals can contact Janice on 01429 855536 or jforbes@alicehousehospice.co.uk
