The team comprises a mix of runners using charity places that have been allocated to the Hospice by race organisers alongside those who have sourced their own places to raise vital sponsorship. Whilst registration for the event is now closed, runners with their own places who are not already representing a charity can still join the team.

This year’s event has received shirt sponsorship from Boots Opticians as well as support from Atom Gym at Wynyard. There are also runners from Hartlepool and Wynyard Golf clubs, Hartlepool Rugby Club and Team Sally led as ever by long term Hospice supporter Phil Holbrook.

Lee Dodgson who has previously completed the London Marathon, Great North Run, 7 Marathons in 7 Days and running from Land’s End to John O’Groats in support of the Hospice is also hoping to take part after overcoming a knee operation earlier this year. This year’s run also sees the return of John Hewitson, Academy Manager at Hartlepool United.

Fundraiser Greg Hildreth who works closely with the runners and is taking part on the day said “This is one of our biggest annual fundraisers and it’s wonderful to see a mix of familiar faces and people new to the event coming forward to support patient care. We have got some fantastic groups and organisations backing us and it’s lovely to see how this event brings so many people together.

It’s a big challenge and we are really grateful to all those who are working hard training and raising sponsorship. Anyone out there with a place can still come forward for a sponsor pack as we would love to welcome them to the team. We’re really looking forward to another great day; it’s brilliant to have such a strong presence at one of the biggest running events in the world.”
