Care Home Sector Training

New training initiative supports Care Home Sector

Alice House Hospice is one of a number of local organisations who have collaborated with the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Local Authority to develop a bespoke training and education programme for Care Home Sector.

“We believe that the investment in training care home staff is vital for the health and wellbeing of our local population and is just one of the many initiatives the CCG supports to ensure people receive the care they need to remain at home, avoiding the need for a hospital admission or if admitted are able to return home and be supported by confident and competent staff.”

Commissioned jointly by NHS Hartlepool & Stockton on Tees CCG, Hartlepool Borough Council, North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust and Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Trust the training programme which also includes end of life care, dementia, delirium and falls awareness, is part of a wider drive by partner organisations to meet challenges within the care home sector.

Paula Swindale, Head of Strategy & Commissioning, NHS Hartlepool and Stockton on Tees CCG said,

“This is a great opportunity to provide additional training for staff within the care home sector. Our aim is to empower staff to provide better care for residents and assist with reducing admissions to hospital.

Lucy Smith, Senior Manager Clinical Services at the Hospice said,

“The Hospice are delighted to be a part of this programme which demonstrates joint up working between providers to support homes to deliver care to their residents.  From the Hospice’s perspective this programme will increase residents’ preferred place of care and prevent people spending their days in an acute environment.”
