Complementary Therapies

The Complementary Therapy service at Alice House Hospice offers a gentle therapeutic intervention which can be accessed by Hospice patients, Day Care patients, Outpatients and the local community.

"This is my hour in the week of total me time."

Whether referred by a medical professional and given alongside conventional medication, to help symptom management, or by self-referral and to simply promote relaxation and an increased sense of wellbeing, treatments are tailored to the individual and aimed to offer the maximum benefit to the patients’ health and happiness.

Therapies offered include Aromatherapy, Reflexology and various different types of Massage. Some Beauty Therapies are also available.
Benefits of Complementary Therapies can include:

  • Promoting relaxation
  • Reduction in stress and tension in the mind and body
  • Uplifting mood and providing an increased sense of wellbeing
  • Aiding pain relief
  • Improving sleep patterns and/or quality of sleep
  • Relieving specific symptoms for example, muscle aches, constipation etc.
  • Boosting circulation
  • Improving skin condition
  • Boosting self-esteem
  • Providing comfort and support

Hospice patients and their family/carers receive all Complementary Therapies free of charge.

There is a cost involved in receiving treatments to non-hospice patients and this helps to raise funds for the Hospice.

Appointments are available in the Holistic Wellbeing Centre, patients’ rooms in the Inpatient Unit at the Hospice or in the comfort of your own home.
