Christmas is coming …

Christmas is always a busy time at Alice House Hospice, with lots of fundraising events and campaigns happening.

The first of which is the annual Trees of Remembrance in Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, where visitors can place a bauble on one of the Christmas trees, along with a message of remembrance to a lost loved one. The Trees of Remembrance are staffed entirely by volunteers and will be in the Middleton Grange from Monday 18 December.

The ever-popular Alice House Calendar will be available from Alice House reception, all Hospice shops, the Trees of Remembrance and many other local venues.  Featuring stunning local photographs from Volunteer Photographer, Ashley Foster they make a great stocking filler.

There will be a Christmas Fayre on Saturday 23 November at the Alice House from 11am until 2pm.  Visitors will be able to browse Festive Stalls which will include Handmade Crafts, Sweet Treats, Knitted Goods, Tombola, Raffle and much more.  There will also be an opportunity to have your photo taken with Hospice mascot Alice Mouse.

Instead of friends and colleagues sending individual Christmas cards to each other, groups, schools and Businesses can sign up for a Share A Card Appeal.  Alice House will provide a large Christmas card which can be placed in communal areas allowing people to share their festive good wishes for others to read and make a donation to Alice House, much more environmentally friendly than sending lots of cards.

On Sunday 1 December Ward Jackson Park will be filled with lots of Santa’s and his little helpers as the annual Santa Fun Run takes place.  The event is very kindly sponsored by Fire97, Readhead Associates, Publicity Seekers & Property Webmaster and entertainment on the day will be provided by Gavin Lancaster of Higham Discos.  The run is one lap of Ward Jackson Park and is approximately ½ mile. Registration is £8 for Adults (which includes a Santa Suit), £5 for children (which includes a Santa Hat or flashing Reindeer Antlers) and £22 for a family of four (2 Adults and 2 Children).

The annual Light up a Life campaign where people are invited to dedicate a light on a Christmas tree in memory of a loved one.  There will be two Light up a Life services again this year: the first service takes place at Saint Paul’s Church in Hartlepool at 7pm on Thursday 19 December and includes a performance by local ladies’ choir Choral Interlude.   The second is at Saint Cuthbert’s Church in Peterlee on Friday 20 December at 6:30pm and features Saint Cuthbert’s Church Choir.
