Local fundraiser sets challenge to celebrate 60th birthday
A WELL-KNOWN LOCAL FUNDRAISER HAS SET HIMSELF A CHALLENGE of taking part in twelve charity events in as many months all in aid of Alice House Hospice.
Phil Holbrook, who also volunteers for the Hospice based in Hartlepool, turns 60 in September 2020 and came up with this twelve-month challenge to commemorate his milestone birthday.
Phil is a long-term supporter of Alice House and regularly raises money in the memory of his late wife Sally who was tragically killed in a car crash in 2012. Phil is joined by friends and family in his efforts and the group are collectively known as #TeamSally.
Phil has already held the first two of his events which were a pumpkin show for Halloween at The Fisherman’s Arms and a quiz night held at The Anchor. Future events include a number of local runs, a live music event, a marathon bike ride, running the Lakeland Marathon and more. The challenge culminates with Phil completing his 30th Great North Run the week after his 60th birthday next year.
Greg Hildreth, Corporate Fundraiser at Alice House said “Phil and Team Sally do so much for Alice House and this challenge means that they will have an even busier year than usual. What a great way to celebrate a milestone birthday; we would like to wish Phil and his supporters the very best of luck in their endeavors.”
Local business Wise Financial Consulting are the official sponsors of Phil’s challenge and the company has recently made a number of generous donations to the Hospice. Phil is also supported by close friend and fellow volunteer Steve Bell of SMB Training and Phil’s event t-shirts were kindly paid for by The Fisherman’s Arms.
Phil added “I would like to thank Wise Financial Consulting for giving me the chance to promote the 12 in 12 Challenge Series. Hopefully more people may get involved in the coming months, fundraising under the #TeamSally banner in aid of Alice House Hospice which provides such a fantastic service. The staff who work there go beyond what is expected of them every day.”
