‘JustGiving’ for my 40th
A massive thank you and well done to Laura Wilson for raising over £800 for her 40th birthday in aid of Alice House!
"Amidst these challenging times and social distancing measures was my 40th birthday. The birthday party we'd planned was postponed and I was feeling a tad glum."
Laura said, ” After reading about the Covid-19 restrictions families and hospice patients need to adhere to, I couldn’t imagine the distress of families not being able to be with and hold their nearest and dearest close at such a ‘delicate’ time.
I was pleased to see the appeal for funds to seek smart tv’s and other technology to keep families connected in these unprecedented times. I had been looking for a charity seeking support, since I planned to use my big birthday as an opportunity to raise funds for a good cause rather than receive lots of cards and gifts from friends and family.
For ease, I set up an online ‘Just Giving’ page and within days I was absolutely overwhelmed to the response. So many people were happy to make very generous donations in lieu of cards and gifts (and it meant they didn’t have to brave the shops unnecessarily.)
In total, a sum of over £800 went to the Hospice and it was the best gift I could have received, along with the kind wishes left with each donation.
At the end of the day I reflected on what a genuinely brilliant birthday I’d had and how I had in fact been surrounded by the people I love ‘virtually’ through technology, despite staying home all day!
I will be forever grateful to Alice House for the care given to my Dad (Keith Hooks) in 2018 and the opportunity provided for us to comfortably stay together as a family in his final days. The care offered to us at such a difficult time meant everything and I know some dear friends of mine have more recently experienced the second to none support offered by the Hospice too.
Thanks to my brilliant friends and family for the generosity shown and wishing everyone at Alice House Hospice the very best.”
