#VOLUNTEER22 with Alice House Hospice

Alice House Hospice is about to launch its biggest ever recruitment drive to boost its volunteer workforce across all areas of the charity.

The campaign, which is called #Volunteer22 and launching in July, is reaching out to individuals, community groups and businesses throughout Hartlepool and East Durham, to promote the importance of volunteering, highlight volunteer opportunities and fill volunteer role vacancies.

There is a diverse range of roles across the Hospice, which provides vital care and support to patients and families affected by incurable illnesses. The charity relies heavily on the support of volunteers in order to deliver its specialist services.

There are volunteer vacancies in retail, fundraising, communications, administration, and clinical and wellbeing services. Working patterns can be adapted to suit the individual’s availability and training is provided for all volunteers. Ad hoc roles are also available, such as occasional support at fundraising events.

#Volunteer22 is also appealing to businesses and has set a target to recruit 22 businesses, with each donating 22 hours of staff time throughout the year. If this is achieved, it would mean approximately 13 full-time weeks of volunteer time were donated. This time would make a huge difference across the Hospice and is needed urgently.

Community groups of all types, such as sports teams and other leisure or hobby clubs, are encouraged to get involved and learn how they can help.

Alice House Deputy CEO and HR Manager Nicky Haggan said, “Our volunteers are incredibly valuable and we have seen a drop in numbers over the years; this was particularly impacted by COVID, so we are giving our biggest push to try and rebuild this area of our workforce. As well as the direct benefits to local families, volunteering can be beneficial to individuals in lots of ways.

Volunteering can help people learn new skills, access training, build confidence and make new friends. We also have a number of full-time paid staff members who started their journey with us as volunteers, so there are often career opportunities available too.

Volunteering is an excellent way for our fantastic business community to make a real difference and fulfill their corporate social responsibility.

Whatever you can do to help and whatever your skills, we would love to hear from you.”
