Forget me not, and think of me, the times I made you smile…

As summer approaches, many of us will be reminded of sunny days and happy times with people who are sadly no longer here. Whilst over time, we begin to accept the loss of a loved one, our memories of them never fade.

Alice House Hospice are inviting you to celebrate the lives of these much missed, special people in their Forget-Me-Not Appeal.  Now in its fourth year, this campaign is a way for you to pay tribute to loved ones, whilst helping to sustain Hospice care in the region.

Dying matters

Dying Matters… So to get people talking about talk about it Alice House Hospice joined together with other organisations in one place so that the public could find out more about the choices available to them, and to encourage conversations about death and dying.

Many people have specific wishes about what they would like to happen after death but don’t talk about it.  Death, dying and bereavement are still a taboo subject. In 2009, the National Council for Palliative Care (NCPC) set up the Dying Matters Coalition to promote public awareness of dying, death and bereavement.

New Complex Needs Day is a hit

A new service is up and running at Alice House Hospice; a social Day Care service for patients with more complex healthcare needs.

The idea for the Complex Needs Day came about because of a gap in service provision for people for additional complex health care needs.

Remembering dads on fathers day

Why not dedicate a glass brick in the Alice House Wall of Light in time for Fathers’ Day on 17th June.

Remember someone special with a dedicated glass brick in our Wall of Light, a feature wall illuminated at night and made with over 200 individual glass bricks.

Art therapies for hospice patients

Since October 2017, various artists have been joining the Hospice team at the Day Hospice and Day Care to deliver creative session for patients.  Sessions range from creative writing, painting, singing, crafting and hen keeping.

The latest artists to join us is Michael from Equal Arts and he helped showed patients how to create a ‘shallow relief plaster casting’.  This involved some very tactile activities such as rolling out of clay and using lots of different tools and instruments to design a pattern on the clay.  Once the plaster was poured and dried out the following week, patients then painted their casts and took them home.
