George Newbury, Volunteer

George Newbury, retired Engineer from Hartlepool, has been volunteering for the Hospice for 10 years.

It is satisfying knowing that I can help to ensure the Hospice can continue giving the care and comfort that we as a family have personally experienced. It is like another social outlet and I enjoy meeting the other lovely people at the Hospice; patients and staff alike."

George’s wife, Joyce, used to come and enjoy Aromatherapy sessions at the Hospice and found them particularly helpful, several of Joyce’s relatives have also used the Hospice’s Inpatient Unit.

George said, “I wanted to find a way to repay the kindness and comfort we had experienced at the Hospice.  I now tend the Hospice gardens.”

George is also involved in fundraising activities, regularly helping with the Hospice events.
